GM President Says Chevrolet will Debut Two New Models at Chicago Including a Camaro-Based Car

Speaking at a J.D. Power forum in Detroit, General Motors North American President Mark Reuss announced that Chevrolet will unveil two new models at the upcoming 2011 Chicago Auto Show, which kicks off on February 9. Mr. Reuss said one of the models will be a new vehicle based on the Camaro-platform, however, he declined to divulge further details about the car.

"It will be fun," Mr. Reuss told reporters in regards to the Camaro-based model. "I'm not going to give you guys any product information other than what I gave (in the presentation.) I'd ruin the whole show."

Now, the inevitable question that arises is, what are the two models Chevy is planning to introduce in Chicago?

Well, the Camaro-based model could be anything from the range-topping, V8-supercharged Camaro Z28 to a civilian version of the Caprice PPV or even something totally new. As for the second model, there's a chance it could be a successor to the Malibu sedan (seen in the patent drawings above and below), which is due for replacement soon, but we could be wrong. As always, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

All of Chevrolet's ads at this year’s Super Bowl were created by the Goodby, Silverstein & Partners agency. Chevrolet returns to the Super Bowl after a four-year absence.

How do you Say Camaro in German? Schmidt Revolution's 625HP Supercharged Chevy

It's not very often that we come across European tuners doing their thing on good ol' American muscle - and for a very good reason as there are more chances of seeing a snow storm in Florida...in the summer than a Chevrolet Camaro in Europe. That said, Schmidt Revolution's tuning proposal certainly piqued our curiosity.

The German tuning house's tuning program concerns the Camaro SS with the 6.2-liter V8 engine. The addition of a compressor kit from Speed Box (€8,999 or US$12,300) along with a BORLA stainless steel exhaust system (€999 or US$1,370 without the tail pipes) pushes output to 625-horses.

Schmidt Revolution tune continues with H&R coilovers (€1,272 or US$1,740) and stabilizer (€530 or US$725), while the Camaro rides on 22-inch alloy wheels in tires sized 265/30 R22 up front and 295/25 R22 at the back (€3,399 or US$4,650). The program can be complemented by a matte black body finish priced at €3,500 or US$4,800.

New Chevy Camaro Confirmed for Europe

Chevrolet has confirmed that its highly successful in the U.S. 2010 Camaro coupe will make it across the pond. Jurgen Keller, general manager at Chevrolet Germany told Auto Motor und Sport that despite the economic turmoil, GM has decided to bring the rear-wheel drive muscle car over to Europe and that Germany will definitely be among the countries to receive the car. Keller added that GM has not yet set a date for the European market launch of the Camaro.

In the States the Camaro is available with a 304HP 3.6-liter V6 and a 6.2-liter V8 that makes 426HP when combined with a manual gearbox and 400HP with an auto. Prices range from $23,040 (€16,400 at today's exchange rates) for the LS V6 to $35,425 (about €25,215) for the 2SS V8.

Apparently there's no way of knowing how much the Camaro will cost in Germany - though an independent dealer imports the Camaro 2LT V6 for €39,900 and the V8 SS for €50,615.

Just for the record, let us tell you that a three-door Toyota Yaris Executive with the 100HP 1.33-liter petrol engine will cost you in Germany €17,150 or at today's exchange rates, about $24,100 while the Alfa Romeo MiTo that has captured the imagination of U.S. readers, costs €16,200 or around $22,800 when equipped with a 1.4-liter petrol engine that makes a puny 98HP.

And yes, I'm well aware that you cannot directly compare prices because of the different taxation systems, exchange rates etc but American consumers should feel God damn lucky that with $23k they can go and buy a 300HP rear-wheel drive muscle car instead of a Yaris or a Mito. Nuff said.

New Chevy Camaro SS Convertible to Pace Indy 500, then go on Sale

For the second year in a row, Chevrolet's Camaro SS will serve as the official pace car of the Indianapolis 500. The only difference this year is that GM's pony car will be the new convertible model with the company planning to build a total of 50 examples.

The pace car, along with the matching replicas are all based on the SS model and are equipped with a 400-horsepower V8 engine. All cars are painted in a Summit White exterior accented with orange stripes and door graphics. Inside, the seats are trimmed in orange leather with the front headrests featuring an embossed Indy 500 logo, while the door panels and instrument panel get white trims. In addition, the center panel trim features extensions of the orange exterior stripes.

GM said it will auction off the first of the 50 Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee cars at Saturday's (January 22, 2010) Barrett-Jackson event, with all proceeds from the sale to be donated to the David Foster Foundation, a charity devoted to supporting families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants.
